The 7th floor bay windows of the famous La Rinascente store in Milan have recently been renovated, with Alphalia Silent Aw fabric. This acoustic material improves thermal and acoustic comfort, adding a touch of elegance to the area.

The 7th floor of La Rinascente is a Food Hall, with a number of restaurants, sales areas for gourmet foods and a panoramic terrace, greatly appreciated for its exceptional view of the cathedral. However, there are two major disadvantages to this glass structure: sound absorption is very poor and the ambient air is greatly overheated, causing serious discomfort the public and staff of La Rinascente.
Now, the composite blinds made of Alphalia Silent Aw meet the thermal, acoustic and aesthetic requirements of the site.

Reducing noise to improve comfort

Serge Ferrari carried out a detailed acoustic study to demonstrate the efficiency of the Alphalia Silent Aw fabric for the false-ceilings and indoor blinds. La Rinascente needed acoustics suitable for conversation, and the acoustic blinds made of Alphalia Silent Aw offer a notable improvement in acoustic comfort by considerably reducing reverberation and therefore overall noise levels. The average reverberation time went down from 0.8 to 0.5 second which corresponds to 40% additional acoustic comfort.

Acoustic indoor blinds

In terms of thermal comfort, the Alphalia Silent Aw composite fabric, Kilimandjaro colour, has a solar factor of 0.31, which means that it blocks 69% of the sun's energy, while reducing glare at the same time.
